When a manufacturer develops a new vehicle they have to take into consideration all potential problems it may be subjected to in all of the regions in which they intend to sell this model. This means it can not just be optimised to deliver the best performance and fuel efficiency wider considerations & compromises within the map file have to be taken into account. These potential differences in operating conditions such as sub-standard fuels, extremities in temperature and altitude, difference in emission laws which vary from country to country and even the possibility and the potential that the vehicle may not be serviced on a regular basis in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations.

Why don’t vehicle manufacturers tune their vehicles?

Vehicle manufactures build one cost-effective vehicle for all drivers, this is to alleviate the necessity to make five or more different engines for the same basic vehicle taking into account tax banding, insurance, performance, price, and economy. The destination & country in which the vehicle is to be used is also a factor to be taken into account. The days are now behind us when, if we wanted a more powerful vehicle we bought one with a bigger engine. The ECU is programmed with the basic standard map to achieve the advertised output for the vehicle being sold. A good example of this is the Ford Transit van utilizing their 2.0 TDCi Engine, the vehicle is available with 3 x power options, 105 PS, 130 PS and 170 PS, the only difference is the map within the ECU.

What happens on the day? How long does it take?

Prior to my visit I will ask for Vehicle Registration, Any engine modifications carried out & what you expect from the Remap.

An engine diagnostic is conducted and any fault codes are noted & must be cleared prior to starting the remap.

It is critical that the vehicle power is stable throughout therefore a power stabiliser will be attached to the battery of your vehicle.

A “read” is then carried out of the vehicle’s ECU, labeled and stored.

A copy of your file is sent off to be modified to give the desired improvements to your vehicle’s power or torque or fuel economy or what ever discussion we had to your Specification.

The new map is sent back, is written back to your ECU to transform your vehicle’s performance.

The vehicle is then run up to temperature & a further check is carried out for fault codes.

We hand you your keys and invite you to go for a drive and experience the transformation of your vehicle.
We always say allow up to 2 hours, but often much sooner depending upon the complexity of the work being carried out.

      DPF Solutions

We have the ability to be able to carry out DPF delete as well as EGR delete but be aware that these software actions also require the mechanical actions
to be completed. ( WE DO NOT CARRY OUT THESE MECHANICAL UNDERTAKINGS )

Although it is not illegal to remove a DPF filter form your vehicle, it is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1
to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet.
EGR DELETION HAS NO EFFECT ON YOUR MOT
All EGR functions are removed from the ECU remapping system to ensure the valve stays closed. Contact Kool Runnin’s to see how we can help you.
